The Gateway to India, Colaba, Mumbai

The Barratts are the family of Agnes Henrietta, the mother of Chris and Mike Heron.  Her parents were married in Colaba, Bombay (which is now known as Mumbai)  in 1916.  Her father's family had, for at least three generations, lived in the Bombay area and had seemingly arrived there from the British Isles seeking employment with the British East India Company as so many others before him had done

Colaba these days is a popular tourist area with lots of budget accommodation, excellent shopping areas and a thriving market and fishing port. It is also where the famouse 'Gateway to India' (pictured left) can be found.
